Commission of Mother and Baby Homes Final Report

The Commission is continuing in existence until 28 February 2021 in order to deal with its archives and other administrative matters.

Confidential Committee
The Commission’s final report includes the report of the Confidential Committee. No person or institution is identified in that report.

The archives of the Commission include the accounts which people gave to the Confidential Committee. These, together with other Commission records must now be handed over to the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth. The Commission of Investigation (Mother and Baby Homes and certain related Matters) Records, and another Matter, Act 2020 requires the Commission to contact all the people who told their story to the Confidential Committee in order to ask them if they want their name and other identifying information included in the records which the Commission must now transfer to the department. Staff of the Commission are now doing this and, if you attended the Confidential Committee, you can expect to be contacted in the next few weeks.

If you were at the Confidential Committee and are happy to have your name included in the records, you don’t need to do anything.

If you want to have your name removed, you need to tell the Commission this in writing.

You can do that by emailing us at info@mbhcoi.ie or we will send you a form which you can complete and return to us in the stamped addressed envelope which will be provided.
